Will I need a rental car once I arrive in Grand Cayman?
Though there are many restaurants and shops within walking distance of Regal Beach, if you wish to explore the rest of the island renting a car is suggested. It is best to call prior to your trip for reservations especially if you require a specialty car. Two good suggestions would be:
|
| • |
Marshall’s, at the airport (345) 949-7821 |
| • |
Andy’s Car Rental (345) 949-8111 (Across from Regal Beach) or airport location (345) 949-5579

What is the currency in the Cayman Islands?
Currency in the Caymans is .80 cents per US Dollar. Everything tends to be more expensive here. You will find that items are 20% - 30% more than in the US. I guess it’s the price you have to pay for paradise.

Do you recommend any restaurants?
There are several great dining establishments to choose from. On an evening excursion, try the Cracked Conk, which is located on the north side by the Turtle Farm. South of the condo, you will find the Wharf, which is right before you get to the main town. Here you can feed the tarpon around 7:00 in the evening. (Wharf is just north of the main Georgetown Harbor.) In the Harbor itself, I highly recommend the Smugglers Cove. They feature great American seafood and just next-door is a great Italian restaurant. These are all high quality restaurants yet you can go in shorts if you desire.
Deckers is a great place to stop in for a casual dinner or a few drinks. It’s approximately one mile north of the condo with a double-decker, red bus. It’s across from the Hyatt Grand Cayman and not easy to miss. If you desire a spectacular view of a Cayman sunset then you must stop at Paradise Grill. It’s located just south of Georgetown and looks life a Jimmy Buffet bar. As you sit over the water, you will enjoy your meal almost as much as the scenery. Lastly, if you are enticed by a Sunday brunch, you should visit the Westin. It’s quite expensive, but highly recommended.

Do you recommend visiting Stingray City?
Well, you can’t mention the Cayman Islands without hearing “Stingray City” in the same sentence. It’s a quite popular site and a fascinating experience. To explore Stingray City you have several options. I would recommend contacting Captain Marvin’s. For approximately $350 - $400, Captain Marvin will take you out on your own boat to scuba and snorkel Stingray City. For this amount, you can take up to 13 people with you to enjoy the day. If you pay cash they’ll usually give you a 10% discount. As an alternative, other companies provide afternoon trips for approximately $35.00 per person; however, these boats tend to be very crowded.

Are the Cayman Islands safe?
Safety is always an issue when you travel. You must use common sense, as with anywhere. Though this is the case, you will find the Cayman Islands are one of the safest in the Caribbean. You should not feel threatened or worried about your safety, particularly at Regal Beach. For added safety, there is usually security on the property throughout the evening hours.

|
Is there any deep sea fishing?
For deep-sea fishing, I highly recommend the Island Girl Charters. You can reach Mr. Pete Tibbits at (945) 947-3029. I have been very lucky over the last three fishing trips while catching three Blue Marlins that weighed over 225 pounds each. You may be concerned when seeing the boat because it is not the prettiest although it is one of the best fishing trips on the island. As an alternative, try Captain Marvin’s. They have a nice luxurious boat, which typically catches smaller fish such as Barracuda and Wahoo.

|
How do you get to Rumpoint?
Rumpoint can be visited by taking the ferry from the Hyatt Grand Cayman through Stingray city and stopping at Rumpoint. This trip will take approximately thirty minutes. However, we chose to get there by renting scooters and traveling around the island. This venture will take about two hours but it was a nice way to see the island and stop for lunch/drinks. Two places to stop could include the Lighthouse and the Cliffhouse, on the south side of the island, where you can overlook the water.

|
Where do you go for snorkeling and diving?
Snorkeling is limited directly in front of the condo due to the sandy beach conditions. However, in front of the Marriott (about 50 yards away) you will find a coral head that is much better to snorkel. If you will like to view different locations call Red Sail Sports (Marriott) or Fisheye.
If scuba diving/snorkeling is at the top of your list, I again recommend you contact Red Sail Sports (Marriott) who will pick you up directly in front of the condo. Another place you may want to check out is Eden Rock, which is just south of Georgetown. Eden Rock will give you an opportunity to dive directly off the shore. There are some nice caves and caverns to explore and the fee is minimal. This is a great spot for snorkelers and divers.
